Skype writes:
Hi All,
Today we are sharing with you the all new Skype for Windows Mobile Pocket PC v1.2 – Beta.
Skype for PPC provides our customers the freedom to enjoy Skype ‘on the go’ in the home, the office or the outdoors - wherever there is a WiFi, EDGE or 3G network that a Pocket PC can connect to. So find your favorite WiFi hot spot and Skype away. If you get an EDGE or 3G enabled Pocket PC with broadband data plan, you can really start going places with your buddies always nearby.
Version 1.2 emphasizes voice quality as well as new languages and top requested features.
For best sound quality we recommend you use devices with CPU > 300MHz as well as earphones and built-in WiFi. If you don’t plan to use earphones we recommend you turn on the ‘echo cancellation’ in the Skype application in Tools / Options. If you plan to use external SDIO WiFi cards CPU should be at least 400 Mhz.
We also created a dedicated version for Intel XScale based devices and another for generic ARM based devices. This customization helps us to take advantage of XScale CPU power. XScale optimized version is available at

and generic ARM version at

Please note that the XScale version does not support voice on generic non-XScale devices. The generic ARM version runs fine everywhere.
Other new features include:
- Incoming voicemails
- Leave voicemail to users who are not voicemail subscribers
- New languages - Simplified Chinese, Italian, Spanish
- SkypeIn and Voicemail status icons on start tab
Skype and Windows Mobile 5.0 – in our testing, Skype for PPC v1.2 preformed on a Windows Mobile 5.0 device, but we are looking to you to provide additional feedback.
As always, your feedback is highly appreciated. Tell us what you think of voice quality, ease of use, places you enjoy using Skype on your PPC and what device you were using.
Best Regards,
Tarmo
